What Is Attribution?

Definition

Attribution is the process of assigning credit for a conversion to one or more marketing interactions.

How Attribution Works

Models can give all credit to a single touchpoint or distribute it across several. Each platform often uses its own data, identity rules and attribution logic.

A Simple Example

A customer may first see a Meta video, later search on Google and finally buy through an email. Different systems can each claim some or all of the same sale.

Why Attribution Matters

Attribution helps organize observed customer paths and channel reporting.

Common Misreading

Attribution is not the same as causation. Crediting a touchpoint does not prove the conversion would disappear without it.
